Last Friday I had a terrible Friday run. It was my own fault – my nutrition had been horrible that day and it showed, boy did it show! I was dragging my butt and literally felt ill the entire time. This week I had to redeem myself. I made sure my nutrition was good all day and my energy was high. Met up with Devin and off we went. The goal was to make it past the benchmark we had set 2 weeks earlier (a bench on our route) in the first half of the run. We were aiming for one or two benches past – the result? SIX benches past. It was great! But even still I didn’t want to get too excited – I tend to have a better first half then second half of my run.
We turned around and started back, pushing the pace. Towards the end Devin was pushing me pretty hard – telling me to open the stride, push through and that at that point the speed was all in my head and just FOCUS. I couldn’t breath to answer so I just pushed for the past last few minutes.
The end result? We finished the 2nd half 5 seconds faster than the first half!! So in the end not only did we cover more distance, we finished faster than two weeks earlier. whoohooo. It felt great!! And now I have a challenge for next week – to beat it again. Having Devin push me hard made a huge difference, so did my determination to come back hard after the week before.
Oh – and my shoe was untied for the last 5 minutes – no way was I letting that slow me down!! Bring on the day!
